The Venustus Cichlid is one of the big cichlids that can grow close to 10 inches. This fish can be a great addition to any large community aquarium, they are not as aggressive as other cichlids and they have great color forms that can be a highlight to your large species aquarium.
Venustus Cichlids are now becoming rare in the wild, but it is quite common to see this fish in the aquarium trade due to commercial breeding. Moreover, Venustus Cichlids are very clever fish, a trait found in all cichlids in the Nimbochromis genus. They are an ambush predator that will partially bury Themselves in the sand. It will then hold very still, for up to several minutes, waiting for an unsuspecting small fish to swim by.
