The Peruvian Altum Angelfish

The Peruvian Altum Angelfish is such a majestic fish that requires a taller than average aquarium, due to its potential adult height and long trailing finnage. They measure about 7 inches (18 cm) in length but are very tall, with extensive fins that make it up to around 9" (20 cm) in height.

The Peruvian Altum Angelfish is considered to be the most peaceful out of angelfish species. They are quite timid and get easily spooked literally by anything. Most especially when they are new to the tank, but when they get comfortable and acclimated they are friendly and personable fish. Though they are peaceful, as they mature they become more territorial and may prey on smaller fish.

The Peruvian Altum Angelfish have a curious habit of “yawning.” If you have a chance to watch this happen, you will see that when fully opened, their mouths are much larger than they actually appear when closed. Altum Angelfish is very similar to the wild form of the other angelfish species, but it is both taller and longer.

The Amapa Red Back Angelfish

The Redback Amapa Angelfish (Pterophyllum Scalare) is a unique variant of the classic angelfish. As they mature, they will develop a red-orange coloration from their forehead to their dorsal fin.

The Amapa Red Back Angelfish is mostly compatible with other peaceful fish species as long as they have enough space to claim as their territory to prevent aggression towards other tankmates, most especially when they are spawning. They thrive best in a heavily planted aquarium.

In their natural habitat, they are found almost exclusively in quiet, slow moving water. In the wild they prefer dimly lit areas, under overhanging vegetation or among trees that have fallen into the river. - Pterophyllum altum 🐠 - also referred to as the altum angelfish or Orinoco angelfish, occurs strictly in the Orinoco River Basin and the Upper Rio Negro watershed in Southern Venezuela, Southeastern Colombia and extreme Northern Brazil. 🐠🌿 Wasser: weich bis mittelhart, pH ca. 5,0 - 7,5 Temperatur: 26 bis 30° Celsius Beckengröße: mindestens 80 l und 70 cm Höhe Bepflanzung wichtig: ja Futter: Lebendfutter, Frostfutter, Trockenfutter _________________________________ Pterophyllum is a small genus of freshwater fish from the family Cichlidae known to most aquarists as angelfish. All Pterophyllum species originate from the Amazon Basin, Orinoco Basin and various rivers in the Guiana Shield in tropical South America. The three species of Pterophyllum are unusually shaped for cichlids being greatly laterally compressed, with round bodies and elongated triangular dorsal and anal fins. This body shape allows them to hide among roots and plants, often on a vertical surface. Naturally occurring angelfish are frequently striped transversely.
